Do not forget to check with your home insurance carrier! A pool will bring up your insurance cost. In case a neighbors child falls in or other accident. Even if the pool is fenced and locked and covered. Sad but true.

A pool will cost u money, how much depends on the size of the pool relative to the size of what u already have. The costs listed with the largest expense first are:

real estate taxes for the pool itself & any terrace

cost of weekly cleaning service if u go this route

repairs, maintenance & annual closing (you can open yourself)

electric related to running the pump,sweep, etc

fuel oil if u run a heater

chemicals

water

insurance

cost of feeding all the kids that come over & r then starving

cost of washing 1,000 towels a week or cost of a lock on the cupboard where u keep ur towels.

Do not know if there is a tax difference between in ground & permanent install above ground pools where u live but generally in ground costs more to install & will last longer so the capital cost plus maintenance will probably be the same over the long run.
