l have overpayed my tax for the year 2005/2006.However, l was working on a student visa during that time which only allows 20 hours of work a week. l was working 50-60 hours during the holidays though (l was waitressing), and actually earned quite a lot of money.

I am worried now that when l apply for the rebate there will be lengthy investigations about how many hours l was working and that l will have to go dig up payslips from long ago.Will Inland Revenue investigate what visa l was on and how many hours l was working?Will they contact my employer of that time?

alot of students work shit loads of hours when they are not studying thats how they live
i wouldnt worry as long as you turn up to every class every day

You do not need to worry. Send ur repayment request to the tax office.

It is unlikely that they will need to contact ur ex employer unless the can not find details of the income u received etc.

They might ask u to complete some forms if u have not already done them, P86 'Arrival in the UK', & P85 'Leaving the UK' (if you've left the country or about to).

They also need to know what u were doing during the whole of the tax year (ie did u have any periods of not working, or with another employer). You can use form P91 to tell them that, or write it in a letter. If u have forms P60 & P45 from ur employer, send them to the tax office. This is all routine.
